THE PICKLERS

Beau Martin

Job Title:
Founder & CEP- Chief Executive Pickler

If you were a pickle, what would you be?
I think I would definitely be a Spicy Green Tomato. I’m crunchy and spicy and simple. I stay pretty cool too.

What’s your favorite pickle that you make?
Blue Ridge Beets. I like to get messy.

What’s your favorite thing about pickling?
I guess my favorite thing about pickling is being in the kitchen without the distraction of a restaurant kitchen. It’s simple, just vegetables.

What’s your favorite Brews and Brines pairing?
Willy’s Dillys and Oskar Blues Mamas Little Yella Pils. It’s a clean, cool, and refreshing pairing. And little mama herself, likes our pickles.

If you were a pickle, what would you be?

Pickled Jalapenos. I’m always a little spicy, but some batches are hotter than others. It depends on the day.

What’s your favorite pickle that you make?
Giardiniera. I love the colors and the challenge in making it- it’s the most difficult thing we make.

What’s your favorite thing about pickling?
Never feeling dirty. Smelling like vinegar makes me feel clean.

What’s your favorite Brews and Brines pairing?
Our Tuxedo Beans and Westbrook’s Gratzer. The smokiness of the Gratzer mixed with the mustard seed and dill from the beans makes for a great taste profile. Plus, smoked things are usually tender and our beans have a nice crunch, so it is different. And on top of all of this, we did this Brews and Brines pairing with The Community Tap in Greenville, SC on my birthday and 5 year anniversary with Beau.

 Job Title:
Marketing Director of Pickles aka Pickle Pusher

If you were a pickle, what would you be?
Pickled Beets. I’m not for everyone but I’m sweet- when you like me, you really like me.

What’s your favorite pickle that you make?
Spicy Appalachian Okra. It’s pretty eclectic. It’s wonderful fried, stuffed with pimento cheese, in a Bloody Mary, or straight out of the jar.

What’s your favorite thing about pickling?
I love making things. Simple as that. Pickling is an art form shared by many cultures throughout the world. And it makes sense, everyone wanted to eat veggies in the winter- and pickling made that possible. Thank goodness for pickles!

What’s your favorite Brews and Brines pairing?
I’d have to go with The Narrows Sweet and Spicy cukes with Highland’s Oatmeal Porter. Both compliment one another with sweetness, while the malty porter tones down the cayenne- giving it a smooth finish. It’s all about balance.
